Tara Kanerva
Tara took a very circuitous route to her current position as Delta’s Centre Director.  After obtaining two masters degrees, she began her education career by teaching in Asia and the Middle East.  Upon her return to Guelph, Ontario she began substitute teaching. Ever on the move, she came to BC and found employment as a Director of Education at the Richmond Sylvan Learning. A unique opportunity arose for Tara to go to Kenya and manage a program designed to counsel and pay the way for impoverished women to go to university.  After a two year sabbatical Tara returned to Sylvan Learning in the Delta centre. Tara says, “Having worked with students in many different parts of the world, I am intensely aware of the incredible opportunities afforded to students in Canada.  It is my belief that there is nothing more precious than a meaningful education.  Having witnessed the difference that Sylvan can make in a child’s life – the confidence, the success, the belief in themselves – I can’t think of a more positive way to contribute to a better tomorrow.”
