Vancouver (Westside – Arbutus) Tutors

Jennie Lum, Centre Director
After obtaining degrees in English Language and Elementary Education from the University of British Columbia, Jennie started work as an instructor at Sylvan Learning in 1999. The part-time position became full-time as her responsibilities expanded to include overseeing the Academic Reading Program and testing. She participated in the Director of Education training in 2001, and received certification shortly thereafter. Jennie became the Centre Director of the Arbutus location in January 2010. Jennie values the opportunities that Sylvan provides to work closely with both students and parents to assist in gaining success in school.

Brenda Floyd, Director of Education
Brenda graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Education degree; she majored in Math and Social Studies. She started her teaching career as a Teacher-on-Call for the Vancouver School Board, but decided to explore other careers in education. Brenda has been working at Sylvan for several years; first as an instructor and program manager, and now, as a Director of Education. Brenda became the Director of Education of the Champlain Square location in the spring of 2008 and transferred to the Arbutus location in January 2010. She enjoys working with both parents and students to create an individual plan that will help them achieve their goals.

Bonnie Wong, Director of Education
Bonnie’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree, with double majors in Psychology and Linguistics, and Grade 10 piano certification from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Since graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Education degree in 2007, she has had several years of experience interacting with elementary aged students and their parents as a classroom teacher. Bonnie joined Sylvan Learning in 2008. While continuing her duties as a classroom and piano teacher, she also continued to teach at Sylvan because she was impressed with how students gained confidence and knowledge through their individualized programs. In the summer of 2011, Bonnie became a Director of Education at our Arbutus location.

Vancouver (Westside – Cambie) Tutors

Barbara Kennedy, Centre Director
Barbara brings over 25 years of Sylvan experience to her current position at the Cambie location. She is a strong believer in the Sylvan programs and has seen firsthand the positive impact that is made on students and families.

Veronica Jackson, Director of Education
In 2005, Veronica graduated from Western Washington University where she obtained a Bachelor Of Arts degree with a math major and a degree in Education. After becoming a teacher, she had the opportunity to teach in different classes and programs. Prior to her move to Vancouver in 2007, she worked at Sylvan Learning in Snohomish, WA. In January 2010, she joined the Arbutus Centre as an instructor and became interested in making a career at Sylvan. She took on more responsibilities and quickly progressed to Program Manager. She was successful in applying for a Director of Education position and in August 2012 joined the staff at the Cambie centre. She is a dedicated educator and a strong advocate of Sylvan!

Vancouver (Eastside – Champlain) Tutors

Annie Hung, Centre Director
Annie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia with a double major in Psychology and Visual Arts. In January 2006, she started her Sylvan career at the Arbutus location as a Teachers' Assistant. She worked hard and made her way up to become the Office Manager and a Progress Advisor. Her strong belief in the Sylvan programs and her positive interactions with customers have resulted in her helping many families to reach their goals. In the summer of 2011, Annie was promoted to Centre Director. She looks forward to continuing to see students catch up, keep up and stay ahead in their individualized programs.

Linda Lee, Director of Education
Linda graduated in 2006 from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Education degree. Her philosophy as a teacher is to undertake her teaching responsibilities with compassion, humility and commitment to prepare her students in becoming socially responsible, life-long learners. Linda began her career at Sylvan Learning as a part-time instructor and was quick to develop an interest in Sylvan's unique and personalized approach to teaching. In January 2009, Linda became a Director of Education.
